Today we focus on the Ling Gu point, which relieves pain in sciatica and lower back pain. For those people who work sitting in the office all day, it is recommended to work as prevention, thus avoiding the pain that starts from the lower back and extends to the leg, without the person can perform any movement normally.

This acupuncture point, located on the dorsal side of the hand between the thumb and index finger (between the first and second metacarpal), was discovered by Master Tung and what differentiates it from other points is that it requires the use of few needles to have greater effect.

To achieve the expected effect, the needle should be placed on the opposite Ling Gu point. For example, when the person feels pain going down the right leg, the acupuncturist should work the left hand. The patient begins to notice relief within minutes of treatment in 75% of cases.

To manipulate the Ling Gu point, acupuncturists explain that a finger should be placed on the fleshy part between the thumb and index finger of the opposite hand, placing the index finger on the other side of the hand, pressing hard. Although 1 or 2 minutes may be sufficient, the benefits begin to be noticed between 20 and 40 minutes of constant pressure.

This acupuncture point is also used to treat other back pain, head and foot pain, menstrual pain and Bell’s palsy. There are more than 300 points on the body and acupuncturists consider the Ling Gu point to be one of the most useful, especially for relieving back and spinal pain.

According to recent studies, needling the hands increases blood flow, hence its ability to relieve pain. Other research adds that it stimulates the production of endorphins, hormones.
